It’s that time of the year again, we’re welcoming the sun earlier and earlier and everything is feeling more fresh outside! Here in northeast Ohio, we have been counting down the minutes for the snow to leave and fresh flowers to finally bloom.
It’s time to kick out the old winter decor and bring the fun bright colors back into our home. There are a few things I love to do to freshen up our home to give it a nice refreshing feel, hopefully they help and inspire you too!

1. Start with decluttering and a deep spring cleaning!
The first thing I love to do is to give our home a big spring deep clean. I print out my spring cleaning checklist (get yours below!), grab any supplies I need, and pick a good weekend where I can commit to tackling the entire apartment.
I like to go room by room, getting all the fine details done and organizing and decluttering as I go!
Tip: Try to remove as much visual clutter as I can by storing smaller items in baskets or boxes.
If you have a bit of extra clutter around your home, check out the declutter workbook in my freebies library!
My all-time favourite cleaner is this Home Made Simple All-Purpose Spray for so many different reasons! This cleaner is all-natural with 80% of ingredients being plant-derived without phosphates, dyes, parabens, phthalates, or gluten! Even the bottle is 100% recycled.
These come in three different scents, the lemon one is my favourite when doing a deep spring clean, it makes the entire apartment smell so amazing! What’s even better is 3 bottles are less than $12 so we can stay green and stay on budget.
Starting off with a good declutter and deep cleaning of your home lays the perfect foundation for a new fresh feel. Light some candles or diffuse some oils, open the windows to bring in that crisp spring air, and let’s get to the decor!
2. Add fresh greenery and fruit to bring in fun springtime colors
Next, it’s time to bring the outdoors in! During spring months I love to add greenery to every room in our home.
Adding new and fresh greenery to every room is a fun way to brighten everything up, improve air quality, and allow you to create a fun statement with endless options for vases.

However, not all of our rooms get good sunlight, so for some of the rooms in my home, I opt for faux flowers. It is important to note the quality of the faux flowers you buy as some look very fake and some can be very realistic.
I really love the color and quality of these faux thistle arrangements. They bring in subtle colors and can be paired with so many different vases. Another favourite for springtime is these faux wild wax flowers. They come in a variety of colors, but my favorite is yellow!
In the kitchen, I love to use different fruits as decor. Bright lemons make a great pop of color either on a stand or in a dish. You can use limes, oranges, or apples. Any fruit your family loves that can bring in a fun pop of color to your kitchen will amp up your spring decor!
Decorating with fruit is super practical, you’re going to be cooking or eating with your preferred fruit anyway and it looks great when displayed!
3. Swap out linens – Bring in bright throws blankets and pillows for an easy way to freshen your home
Another great way to freshen up your home is to bring in fresh linens. I love adding different throw blankets and pillows depending on the season.
To make this easier, I like to get different style throw pillow covers. There are endless options depending on your personal design style. You can opt for fun printed floral patterns, catchy quotes, or a simple pop of color!
I’ll be the first one to admit it.. I am a complete blanket hoarder. Even if I see one just like one I have, there’s always a reason I can talk myself into getting it. I like being comfy, what can I say?
To make my obsession a bit more justified, I started finding throw blankets in different colours and patterns to go with the seasons! Time to say goodbye to my snowman printed throw and break out my yellow botanical print!
4. Shop your own home
One thing I do every season that makes a big difference is to shop our own home! There are a couple of different ways I like to do this.
If you’ve never done this before you may want to try it this way as it has the biggest impact. Go room by room and remove your decor. If something is harder to remove, I will leave it but keep a mental note that it is still there.
Now, you have a blank canvas and tons of decor to use. Try out different pieces in different areas of your home, you would be surprised what you could come up with and what a difference this can make!
When I was decorating the living room, I was buying pieces every week to slowly put it together as we didn’t want to budget to do it all at once.
As I would buy a piece I would know where I wanted it, but after taking everything down and swapping where almost everything was the overall design turned out so much better!
It can also be a lot of work and very time-consuming to do this. If you are good at visualizing what your space may look like, try to instead go around your home room by room envisioning the decor from other rooms in that space, and move some items around!
Lastly, enjoy your fresh springtime space!
Now that your home is clean and smellin’ amazing. You have fresh bright greenery all-around your home. There are new pops of color and fun spring patterns and your decor feels new being in a different spot of your home.
Now, it’s time to enjoy your fresh ‘new’ space and open some windows to finally enjoy the weather!
What is your favourite part about springtime?

I love everything about spring! The time change, longer days, warmer days, everything coming back to life, and of course a freshly spring cleaned house!
