Decorating your home can get pricey.
Some people just don’t have the room to budget for it, but they still want to create a beautifully decorated space. There’s plenty of ways to still make your home beautiful, for very little money, or even completely for free!
It’s just time to get a bit more creative in our ideas. Learn the best tricks to decorate your home on a budget.
You could always of course buy very inexpensive decor, however, I wouldn’t completely recommend this.
The reason? Most of it just looks cheaply made, and it won’t hold up that long.
Now, don’t walk away from a killer deal!
If you see an item for a great price and it looks amazing and you know you have the money for it at the time don’t pass it up. You just have to get picky in the situation, as you may not be able to swing it even if it’s on a super great sale.
You could also slowly save for decorating. Even $5-$20 from each check will go a long way in the end to setting aside a budget for decorating your home.
But, if you can’t or would rather put the money elsewhere, don’t worry! I still have plenty of options for you to decorate your home, little or no budget.

Paper is your friend when trying to decorate on a budget
Paper is a great thing you can use to decorate! Really! You can create some great ideas for free if you have some laying around your home.
There are so many projects out there that you can create using paper, or you can use an online tool like Canva to find or create some designs to print out.
When I was pregnant and decorating my daughter’s room, I had an idea in my head what I wanted the space to look like. We we’re doing a floral theme and I kept seeing these gorgeous wall flowers I wanted to add to the space.
I found these amazing wall decor flowers all over the place, the only problem was they were anywhere from $50-100! Something we did not have the budget for when decorating her nursery.
That did not fit in the budget just for a few wallflowers, especially when expecting a baby.
So, I hopped on Pinterest did a bit of research, grabbed my hot glue gun (Which I got at the dollar store for very inexpensive also and it works great!) and made the exact same flowers for about $15!
Hop onto google or Pinterest and search for Paper Wall Art DIYs.
Frame photos you print online for an inexpensive way to add decor
Another project I created using paper didn’t cost me anything to complete. I went on Canva and found some beautiful and free designs.
I easily printed these out at home with copy paper I already had and added them to a couple frames I wasn’t using at the time.
I see these same designs and similar frames starting at $40 and up. It’s a beautiful feature piece in my bedroom now and it didn’t take more than 20 minutes to complete.
You can find many websites offering free stock photos with beautiful photos, Canva offers free stock photos as well. Shutterstock and Pexels are other great sites to find free stock photos.
Photos like these and larger sizes can cost you hundreds, but by doing this you can hardly tell the difference.
If you don’t have a printer available, try a local library, Staples or Fedex. You can print off photos starting at under $1. You can also try Walmart to print the photos for a great price.
Head over to dollar tree and find a great frame for only a dollar, check local thrift stores or ask friends and family if they have any they are looking to get rid of. Facebook Market place always has great deals too!

Get cash back on daily purchases to save for affordable home decor
This can be a great way to save up a little money to buy home decor pieces or to buy materials to upcycle some old or free items you may have found.
This is easy to do because you are getting real money back on money you have to spend regardless. Every month I get money back on groceries and gas.
All other purchases are eligible as well, but sometimes we aren’t making these extra purchases which makes getting money back on necessities that much better.
My favorite app for getting money back on every grocery purchase, and even extra money back on gas, is Fetch. An easy app to use to scan receipts and receive points for doing so. What I really like about this app is it can scan all EReceipts as well, so I get points anytime I order anything online. Use my link here for a special 2000 point bonus. They also run specials to gain extra points on specific brands, sometimes offering up to 50% back on purchases.
The last site I use regularly to get cash back is Rakuten. They offer very competitive cash back rates at a huge variety of retailers including sites like Walmart where you could purchase groceries online for pickup with no additional fees. If you use my link here you will get an additional $40 back after spending $40 which is an amazing deal.
Facebook Marketplace
You can ask all around if anyone has any decor or furniture they would like to get rid of. It doesn’t hurt to ask, and you never know what you may get. But also, you can browse Facebook Marketplace or your local garage sales or estate sales! Sometimes there are some really great deals or even people giving out furniture for free!
If it isn’t your styles or it’s a bit outdated, try to up-cycle it! Find some great inspirations on Pinterest on how to to do this for very inexpensive and beginner friendly.
Most furniture looks amazing with a fresh coat of paint (or even just stripping off the old paint and re-staining) and new hardware, and if you get it for free you can end off with a show-stopping piece for only the cost of materials. You may even have some old paint laying around you could use.
Besides the marketplace there are even dedicated Facebook neighborhood groups to help those in need. Make a post, there’s even an option to do so anonymously where you don’t have to show your name until messaging someone who may comment.
Low-income families can even find local furniture banks in their areas. Many of these have easily accessible online vouchers you can fill out and get some much-needed furniture items completely free.
Get Thrifty
Local thrift stores can offer a wide variety of furniture and home decor at very affordable prices.
Check out a few in your area you’ll be sure to find one great piece at an unbeatable price.
You can also search for yard sales on Facebook Marketplace and craigslist.
Find a couple around you or on the way to a thrift store for all the best possibilities!
Another great find is pictures and frames, even if it is an outdated picture, you can always take it out to reuse the frame.
You can also hop onto the Facebook marketplace or Craig list and search for anything people are giving away for free!
You can use it until you have more money to upgrade or money to invest in refurbishing the item.
