Finding the perfect nightstand
When choosing the right nightstand you have to think of the feel of your space, and the functionality you may need. You can choose to buy one brand new, or try your hand at a fun DIY project!
You may choose a closed nightstand that has large drawers for plenty of storage. Or maybe an open style with a more simple style leg. There are endless options based on the functionality you need and style you want!
If your room is smaller, a simple airy end table (with less storage) like the photo above is a great option to help the room feel larger. You can find a similar style with an open shelf below for added storage!

Add a decorative lamp or sconce
Of course, table lamps (like these cute boho ones from Amazon) will give great mood lighting at night when the overhead light may be too harsh. A lamp is also a great way to add height to the design. I suggest adding a warm tone or vintage style bulb for a beautiful soft glow. We use this kind in our bedroom, I love it!
Have fun looking for the perfect bedside lamp. Choose a fun design that speaks to you! You can also opt to hang sconces or a pendant above your bedside table. This would allow for a lot more space on the table while still looking amazing!
I’m currently renting and am trying to minimize drilling, but these battery operated wall sconces from Amazon look AMAZING! No need to figure out electrical and the light color can be changed or dimmed using a remote that comes with the package.
Artwork or Photos
You may choose a large vibrant acrylic painting to be the focal point of your nightstand. You could also choose a lovely family photo in a beautiful frame!
You may set this piece on the table, or you may choose to hang it on the wall above.
If you are planning to set it on the table and also choose to add a lamp, choose pieces in 3 different heights.
Books
Stack your go-to books on your nightstand! You can also choose some you may not read to go with the style and color palette of your room. It will add in extra dimensions and heights serving as a great piece of decor. Plus on those nights you choose to read, they’ll be easily accessible!
If you aren’t big into books, you can add a small trinket box for the same effect! Choose a pretty design and this could be the perfect place for cords or chapstick!
Something Round
Adding in a candle or a small round tray are great addition to your nightstand. Something circular will balance out the squareness of a nightstand. A small tray is perfect if you’re also like me and don’t like to sleep with jewelry on or just need to keep chapstick handy.
You can also choose to add a vase, with or without flowers! A small succulent or a fun medium size vase would be a perfect addition to your nightstand design.
I hope this helped and inspired you to decorate your own beautiful and functional nightstand!

I feel like it’s hard to get artwork right on a nightstand. From a functional standpoint, I prefer hanging so I’m not knocking stuff over in the night. How similar should the artwork be on either side of the bed?
